Going Across the Sea — “Going Across the Sea” seems to have emerged from the Mid South (possible the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee and Kentucky) and was firmly established as a standard in the Southern string band repertory by the 1920s when several artists recorded it. It lives both as a common fiddle tune for square dances as well as a vocal number.
